EXPLORING MORE ABOUT WHAT A CHRISTENING MEANS

Your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others.

A christening is just the beginning of this and so much more.  Over the years to come, it’s a journey you’ll share together with your child by:

  • Being there for your child to talk to about the bigger questions of life – questions about hope, faith and love.
  • Praying for your child through the ups and downs of their faith journey.
  • Showing them practically how to make those good choices in life.
  • Helping them to learn more about their Christian faith, through their church and in other ways.

So it’s a commitment to start as you mean to go on.

ADULT BAPTISM

Baptism is at the heart of an amazing journey of faith as a follower of Jesus Christ. You are never too old to take this step, and being baptized as an adult is a wonderful experience.

You may have been baptized at a christening when you were a child or in a different Christian tradition, and there are always special ways to renew the promises that were made then in a fresh way as you discover more about what it means to live them out in your life.

If you want to know more about the Christian faith, or would like your child christened, or you are ready to be baptized please contact the Parish Office tel: 01959 571515, email admin@pcd.org.uk, or complete the enquiry form on the 'Contact Us' page.  The Parish Office does have an answerphone messaging service for you to leave a message and the Parish Administrator will return your call as soon as possible.

You may be asked to go along to a few sessions to explore more about what it means to be a Christian, usually joining others who are exploring faith as well. Then there will be a special service where you will be baptized and it is our policy to conduct baptism during Sunday morning services.  In the Church of England this may involve water being poured on your head at the font, or the church may have a special pool and you will be fully immersed in the water. However it happens, it’s a great occasion, full of joy.  For more information visit the Church of England website http://www.churchofenglandchristenings.org
